As we wrap up 2007, Carolina / Kure Beach has seen 250 homes sell, along with 27 lots. Currently, there are 656 homes for sale on the island. While it remains a "buyers' market", the days are beginning to dwindle!

Of course there are still over-priced homes for sale, and these will sit on the market...and will not sell (in my analysis, about 50% of the homes on the island are not priced at fair market value).

That said, a good property, at a good price will get gobbled-up! As inventory and buyer choices decline, "seller power" will creep back into the market. This will be especially true for new home inventory as these seem to be most popular with out of town buyers.

Exciting Developments in Kure Beach!

Two major property development projects that will bring fun and education to Pleasure Island residents are in the works.

Kure Beach officials are interested in building a $4 million public park on the land where the vacant Rolling Surf Motel stands. Kure Beach has offered a developer $3.6 million for the land.

The Fort Fisher Aquarium is also looking to develop. They're hoping to build a $12 million pier. The pier would be equipped with classrooms, meeting spaces and a fishing spot. Several sites are being looked at, but this project may not be complete until 2014.

"It's a while away, but it is still a pretty solid idea with some good schematics. We have a model for the pier house and pier, so we are fairly certain it is going to happen," explained aquarium director Donna Moffit.

The construction of the Fort Fisher pier is one of three that the North Carolina Aquarium Society is looking to build. The first project begins on a concrete pier in Nags Head in 2008
